What makes Pearson Engineering different and better than most other engineers?
Our unique way of thinking is a combination of good engineering principles plus the addition of deductive reasoning, logic, and consideration of the whole system.
OUR MISSION
Our mission statement is logical and straightforward – very much like our approach to engineering: To incorporate the ethics of energy conservation in everything we do.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
Pearson Engineering’s business philosophy is quite unique in the arena of HVAC. We are energy experts and efficiency specialists. We see ourselves as problem-solvers, trouble-shooters and environmental detectives.
When good engineering principles and our unique way of thinking are used to solve HVAC problems, the resulting systems are usually more efficient, as well as simpler and easier to service and maintain. The overall result is reduced life-cycle costs.
OUR METHODOLOGY
At Pearson Engineering, we practice something called “Value Engineering,” an incredibly misused term in the construction industry today. The vast majority of the time it means “cost-cutting” and involves neither “Value” nor “Engineering.”
Cost-Cutting asks two questions: “What is it?” and “Can it be cheaper or eliminated?” This philosophy can be short-sighted, and usually results in higher costs down the road.
Although both Value Engineering and cost-cutting strategies frequently yield significant capital-cost reduction, Value Engineering often results in the lowest life-cycle cost.
Simplicity is a continuing theme in our idea of Value Engineering. Since 50% of the life-cycle cost of many buildings is incurred after the building is occupied, we simplify HVAC systems to reduce future maintenance and energy consumption, with less emphasis on “first cost.”
One example of this approach might be to use the most complete (and, therefore, most expensive) boiler, because it simplifies pipes, pumps and controls, which simplifies installation and reduces future maintenance and utility costs for the life of the building. You pay a little more now, but save a lot later. This is a very simple example, but it demonstrates the concept of Value Engineering.
OUR VISION
By combining our mission, our philosophy and our methodology, we have succeeded in many instances where others have not, and where many thought we could not.
We urge clients to call us as early as possible, before the project is defined, so that we may help frame the discussion. This way we can serve as the Owner’s Advocate, Environmental Designer and HVAC Expert.
This can reap untold rewards. Beyond our expertise in state-of-the-art HVAC, we have been retrofitting and updating buildings and systems since 1986. We are intimately aware of what can cause major problems 20 years down the road. By being involved at the beginning, we can design-in considerations for future developments, once again reducing life-cycle cost.
But all of the above is just the tip of the iceberg. The complexities and relationships of an HVAC system within a building are like a three-dimensional game of chess. Please visit our gallery of Projects and you will see more ways we can serve you, your building, and your tenants.
