Richard J. Pearson, P.E.


dickPrincipal of Pearson Forensic Engineering, Richard J. Pearson is the founder and past president of Pearson Engineering. He received his BSME degree from the University of Wisconsin. He is a licensed engineer in fourteen states.

Mr. Pearson has been principal in charge of mechanical-electrical engineering services on a variety of large institutional and commercial projects. Clients include major universities, health care facilities, and corporate clients throughout the United States. Projects have ranged from energy conservation studies and retrofit projects, to new designs for hospitals, laboratories, campus central plants, data centers, high rise buildings, shopping malls, and cruise ships. Dick has designed three projects which have received regional and national ASHRAE Energy Awards.

The Distinguished Service Award was presented to Dick in 1997 from the University of Wisconsin, College of Engineering, and a Lifetime Achievement Award was presented by the University of Wisconsin Construction Club, within the Construction and Engineering Management Program.

In ASHRAE, Dick has been awarded the membership grade of Fellow, for pioneering work with building automation systems. He is an ASHRAE Distinguished Lecturer, and he travels to ASHRAE chapters presenting his Energy Management message. He has also received the ASHRAE Distinguished Service Award. He has been Chairman of the ASHRAE Energy Management Committee, the Environmental Health Committee, and has served on the Board of Directors as well as the following committees: Finance, Professional Development, Systems Energy Utilization, and Code Interaction.

Mr. Pearson is a contributor to the Energy Use and Management Chapter (36) in the 2011 ASHRAE Handbook. He is also co-author of the ASHRAE publication, “Procedures for Commercial Building Energy Audits” (2009). He serves as a Peer Reviewer for the GSA, in the renovation of Federal Courthouses.

Much of Dick’s career has been spent onsite, analyzing the actual operation of HVAC systems, providing analysis, design and problem solving services for HVAC systems throughout the United States. He shares that vast experience as a regular presenter at professional development courses at the University of Wisconsin and elsewhere on subjects related to energy audits, HVAC design, energy management, system analysis and renovation of buildings.
