For more than 25 years, Pearson Engineering’s collaboration with TruStage (formerly CUNA Mutual Group) has resulted in improved comfort across that campus, and has achieved Energy Star® level performance.

Our partnership continues as we prepare to provide engineering expertise and services for the next generation.

Together, Pearson Engineering’s Brian Basken and Jason Beren have more than 40 years of boots-on-the-ground experience at TruStage, ensuring unparalleled knowledge of the HVAC systems equipment and operations.

Pearson Engineering has provided engineering solutions to:

  • Optimize system operations
  • Reduce energy use
  • Decrease operating costs
  • Establish a clear line of redundancy ensuring non-stop operations
  • Continually adapt the HVAC systems to new business needs, such as the creation of collaborative team and open workspaces

The campus buildings regularly achieve high Energy Star® scores, even though the structures range from 30 to 60 years old.

As a result of a multi-year renovation project for the client, TruStage saved 4.1 million kWh per year. That was the equivalent of providing enough electricity to power 586 homes in Madison.

HVAC Systems Keep Improving

Our team has provided HVAC Services for nearly 100 projects of varying sizes.  Significant key ones include:

  • Corporate Headquarters Facilities Improvement (1999-2005) –This five-year remodeling project consisted of 19 phases for a one-million-square-foot facility. The project included air distribution, zoning, air handling systems and Digital Controls upgrades.
  • Boiler Redundancy Project – We designed boiler plants in three separate campus buildings. The plants are all interconnected so that one building can simultaneously serve another in the event of a failure. Backup systems utilizing vaporized propane and fuel oil provide further redundancy in the event of a natural gas outage.
  • Chiller Replacement Projects – These projects replaced nine chillers and their associated cooling towers in three chiller plants.
  • Data Center Projects – Numerous projects have modernized and enhanced the redundancy of the data center. Improvements included airflow management, CRAC unit replacements, chiller replacements, and chilled water piping.

TruStage Values Team’s Knowledge

TruStage senior operations manager Tony Schleinz often expresses his appreciation for Pearson Engineering’s responsiveness.  Tony knows, with our understanding of campus systems and operations, if an emergency arises, we can actually jump in and assist them with operating any and all systems.

“Pearson is always looking out for CUNA Mutual’s best interests. They're very responsive and are always seeking ways to improve our systems and operations."
-- Tony Schleinz, Senior Operations Manager, TruStage (formerly CUNA Mutual Group)
